Age of Empires 4 is getting some fan-requested features in the next patch.
The historic real-time strategy game Age of Empires IV is getting a major patch next week, adding some of the features that fans have been asking for more since its release date earlier this month.
In addition to the updates shown in the roadmap released last week, we will see improvements to the minimap and some new options during and after matches.
Unsurprisingly, the Age 4 winter update will make some balance changes to the real-time strategy game. The French ship Hulk will be shot down a couple of notches to prevent it from dominating the naval warfare.
Cavalry will be more vulnerable to crossbowmen (both standard and elite) and spearmen. The developers have also fixed the Holy Roman Empire prelate so that it can continue to inspire nearby units even after being pushed around a bit.
The Mongols are adjusting the “higher mobility” trait so that the speed modifier “applies appropriately” from now on.
The developers are also adding some requested UI features, such as placing the Chinese Dynasty button in a less prominent location in the lower-left corner of the screen.
You will also have the option to enable an in-game scoring screen: the developers say this can affect the people who play, so it will be an option that you can enable or disable before each game.
You will also have the option to view the full map after a game, so you can see your opponents’ setups. The developers say they’re working on a way to make it easier to swap between the post-game stats screen and the revealed map, but that will come sometime in the spring if all goes according to plan.
Finally, the team has made some improvements to the minimap, making the icons smaller across the board.
And matching the wonder icon on the minimap to the icon seen on the HUD, while making the icon of the main city center is a bit bigger than the rest.
