Shin Megami Tensei V exceeds its predecessor’s lifetime sales.

Modern Atlus games have broken sales records in previously niche franchises. Persona 5, a smash hit, sold over four million copies between the Royal and original editions.

Shin Megami Tensei V was awarded the series’ most popular launch month. We can now see Atlus’ latest JRPG in context with more concrete numbers.

A Famitsu article recently compiled New Year’s greetings by 60 Japanese game developers. Atlus was included on the list.

The company’s greeting thanked its fans for helping Shin Megami Tensei V sell more than 800,000 copies worldwide. Shin Megami Tensei IV, on the other hand, took two years to sell 600,000 units.

This information is key to understanding how Shin Megami Tensei V surpassed its predecessor’s lifetime sales in less than two months.

Although it might not reach the same audience as Persona 5 Sega is happy with its output.

Atlus may be the first entry to hit the 1,000,000 mark if it can maintain its momentum. If the leaked PlayStation or PC ports are released, its potential sales will increase significantly.

The franchise’s future looks bright based on Shin Megami Tensei V’s sales and reception.
