The New World of Amazon Games has been going through a difficult time, financially speaking. Players have discovered various ways to double gold, and the developers have even shut down the MMORPG economy at least twice.

Now it appears that a plan to compensate players for lost gold has resulted in huge unexplained sums showing up in their accounts, and the studio has switched New World EU’s servers to maintenance mode while it gets to the bottom of the problem.

Earlier today, a post on New World forums claimed that more than 300,000 gold has been added to a player’s game account. While other forum users initially dismissed the post as casual trolling, other players reported that members of their companies also received huge sums of gold, between 100,000 and 300,000 each.

Pneuma, the moderator of the New World community, answered the original post, simply saying “Congratulations!” Shortly after that, the community manager Tosch posted an ad that the worlds in the EU Central Region had been put into maintenance mode when the development team was investigating “currently ongoing coin compensation for players.”

About two hours later, Tosch posted an update, confirming that players had been receiving incorrect amounts of coin compensation. They said that developers are currently working on a rollback to correct the issue, which appears to be affecting the central EU region, but that there is currently no estimated time frame for implementation of the fix.

After weeks of gold doubling failures and other financial oddities in New World, it may take some time before the game’s economy stabilizes and becomes normal.
