Lucky Friend Bug Discontinues Pokemon GO Trading: Online games that rely on inter-player connections or economies need to be maintained with care. As in the real world, valuable items must be kept in check.

This value would be meaningless if everything suddenly became super-valuable. Due to a Lucky Friend bug, Pokemon GO trading was closed.

Reminder: When two registered Best Friends in Pokémon trade gifts or participated in raids together in battles.

They may temporarily gain Lucky Friend status. Lucky Friends can trade Pokemon to gain a special Luck status.

Lucky Pokemon require half the Stardust they would normally need to power up. This makes them very valuable for Powerleveling.

This system has one caveat: once two Lucky Friends have completed one trade, they supposed to return to their regular Best Friends.

This is to stop a sudden surge in Luck Pokemon, which could throw the Stardust balance out of control.

Lucky Friend Bug Discontinues Pokemon GO Trading

A Reddit user named AndKrem found that they did not lose their Lucky Friend status when they traded Luck Pokemon with a friend. Andrew was able to trade Pokemon and eventually obtained 100 Luck Pokemon.

Niantic quickly disabled trading in the game after they discovered this bug. On their official support Twitter, they stated that traders were unable to trade while we investigated the issue.

We apologize for any inconvenience and will keep you updated. We appreciate your patience.”

Although Niantic did not specifically mention AndKrem in their tweet, it appears that they were referring to the situation based on AndKrem’s Reddit posting and the responses to Niantic’s tweet.

As of this writing, the trading system is still down, and Niantic hasn’t yet estimated when it will restore.
