More Productivity Features in Oculus Quest Update: Oculus Quest 2 will receive its first software update for the year. This update adds new interface and control features that enhance the VR headset’s practical use.
The update, which includes new support for an Apple device, is productivity-focused, consistent with Meta’s vision for work-oriented VR applications.
Oculus Quest is also known as Meta Quest, and it’s a virtual reality headset. The first Quest was released by Oculus, a division from Meta Platforms, in 2019.
It can run Android-based applications and is a standalone headset. The Quest 2 released in the same year, with physical improvements such as a higher resolution screen and a lighter build.
The rapid updates to the Quest and the rebranding of Facebook to Meta might be related to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for the metaverse, which the company has been focusing on in the past year.
The v37 update introduces several key features. The first is that the Quest supports the Apple Magic Keyboard VR. This idea builds on the LogitechK830 concept.
Bluetooth pairing is possible with the Quest 2. The Quest 2 will display a 3D model of the keyboard in VR. This will ensure VR users don’t lose their keyboards while their headset blocks their vision.
It also helps those who have trouble with touch typing. This option will find under Settings ‘Experimental Features’.
More Productivity Features in Oculus Quest Update
Android users will now have the option to use the new Link Me feature to send browser links directly to their headset. This feature will make it easier for Oculus Quest 2 users to view media quickly and set up VR.
iOS users will need to wait longer for this feature. Support expected “shortly.”
The update also includes improvements to the visibility and intuitiveness of workspaces and overall interface design. The support for hand gestures in Virtual Reality allows you to control the interface more easily without a physical controller, such as while watching a movie.
Windows will behave differently depending on whether the user prefers the 2D panel scaling to be close to the screen. No matter what mode selected, Store, Library, and Browser will always open.
The Explore hub updated to show friend activity, recommendations, and links users have sent from their smartphones.
The v37 update focuses on ease of use.
This is a critical area for VR headsets. It is crucial that users can quickly send content from their smartphone to their headset, especially for a standalone device such as the Quest.
These features will position the Quest as a headset that can wear casually and often instead of sitting on a desk looking awkward. This is an issue with larger headsets such as the HTC Vive or Valve Index tied to a computer and intended for gaming purposes.
Quest devices are now getting the v37 update.
