According to reports a Minecraft RTS offshoot is in the works: Minecraft games are all about creating anything you can think of, and it seems that creator Mojang now engaged in its construction project. More spinoffs said to be in the works for the series, including a Minecraft real-time strategy (RTS) game.
Games writer Jeff Gerstmann first reported the revelation on his Twitch channel. “A new Minecraft offshoot is in the works,” Gerstmann said emphatically.
“It seems to be a real-time strategy game,” says the player. The information is based on screenshots allegedly observed by Gerstmann.
“In a third-person perspective, you’re managing a Steve-like unit on the field and ordering your soldiers about,” he explained. In the pictures, enemy monsters like Piglins were visible, and there was discussion of a plot and cutscenes – just what you’d expect from a game like this.

The Minecraft RTS is said to be under development under a codename and is currently incomplete. So, of course, it hasn’t declared yet, but there are lots of chances for it to happen soon.
“Perhaps it’ll be something Microsoft announces next week,” Gerstmann said. Microsoft seems to be in an excellent position to disclose the game, with the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase airing this Sunday, June 12, and a second Xbox webcast slated for Tuesday, June 14.
A Minecraft RTS makes mechanical sense. The core game already centered on obtaining resources and crafting.
An RTS would automate this by using specified troops and prefabs, with a greater emphasis on strategic fighting. It’s simple to see how various battle situations might plant the same way they could in a Minecraft universe.
An RTS isn’t the first Minecraft offshoot, after all. Minecraft Dungeons is a popular game, with over 15 million players early this year. The Luminous Night update has added new material to the dungeon-crawler.
